Welcome Midori! Maybe it's a good idea for new artist on the blog to introduce themselves, say who they are and why they are interested to work with the children and their families at Bear Cottage. We did that at the old website too!
For those of you who haven't visited before, Bear Cottage is located at 2 Fairybower Road Manly
Once in Manly head up Darley Road as if you were going to North Head or Manly Hospital. Just before the crest of the hill turn left into Viviane Street then right into Fairybower Road (parking can be at a premiu. You may want to park on Vivian Street) Buzz at the front gate which is at the far end of the culdersac. You can sign in and sign out at the front desk and get a "Visitor" budge.
We discussed a few things today which are hopefully of interest to Everyone
1) Trying to have a workshop weekly - starting with Fridays and Saturdays as the general days (but obviously with some exceptions for those who find these days difficult)
2) Creating a roster for a three month trial of this model
3) Having Gy (Gy is a play therapist who works on Tuesdays to Saturdays, Janet works Sundays and Mondays) call people prior to their workshop week to give them an update on who is likely to be in and what materials you need Bear Cottage to prepare where possible.
4) Artist sending in an email with the type of things they might like to do with kids or if they have a preference for working with parents and dates that might be particularly good or particularly bad for them. Midori has a list with all the new artists and it has handed to Janet. If you have sent your information in your email to Midori, they were on the list already.(Of course you can change your workshop plan anytime.)
5) Janet and Midori will then create a roster allocating people to certain weeks and calling for "helpers" for workshops where they might be required.
6) Angela has built a blogspot where people can share ideas and information. All the artists are welcomed to introduce yourself and talk about your past workshop experiences or workshop plans etc.
7) Midori has a CD which Angela gave it to her. The computer at the Bear Cottage can burn the CD so Janet can make some copies and the new artists can get some ideas of the old Art IM workshop and find out the types of workshops which have occurred in the past.
Dates to remember when allocating your workshop time for the coming three months
Week of March 17th Bear Cottage's 9th Birthday (if we get the roster up that quick ... or someone just wants to volunteer to take that one up?!?)
April 2nd - public holiday Good Friday April 3rd - Easter Saturday
April 9th/10th - school holidays (very busy) April 16th/17th - school holidays (and Anzac Day) April 20th-24th 9-12 year old Muscular Dystrophy boys camp
Artists share their knowledge and skills in working with providing art workshops for children with life limiting illnesses and their families at Bear Cottage
Thank you Angela!!
